Hoping to share the richness of Peru and its culture with the world, particularly across New England and the East Coast, a group of Peruvian friends in the Greater Boston area came together in 2017 to found La Agrupación Cultural Pumawari Tusuy Boston.

The founding members, Gisela Delgado, Yovani Suasnabar Rey, Cynthia Arroyo, Estefani Córdova, Michael Cántaro, and Estefanía Bezzubikooff Flores, united by enthusiasm and pride in their Peruvian heritage, invited others to join them in celebrating national traditions, like the annual raising of the Peruvian flag every July 28th at Boston City Hall.

The name Pumawari Tusuy comes from Quechua, one of Peru’s native languages, and translates to “Dancing Warrior with the Strength of a Puma.” Guided by this spirit, the group is dedicated to preserving and sharing Peruvian folklore and culture through traditional dances representing the Coast, the Mountain Ranges, and the Jungle. By doing so, we are hoping to bring together Peruvians and people of all backgrounds throughout the Boston metropolitan area.

Today, Pumawari Tusuy Boston is composed of families, children, youth, and adults who share a commitment to keeping our cultural traditions alive through dance and music — with passion, dedication, and joy. The group is regularly invited to perform at cultural events across Massachusetts, proudly representing Peru’s spirit and diversity.
